Bernard van Leer Foundation in the Dutch news!

Published December 7, 2015

The Bernard van Leer Foundation was featured on the Dutch nightly news (RTL nieuws, 4:16 minutes) as an example of Dutch philanthropy. The item covered the story of Mark Zuckerberg who – together with his wife – announced in a letter to his newborn daughter that he will put 99 percent of his Facebook Inc. shares into a new philanthropy project focusing on human potential and equality.

The news focused on the fact that in the USA it is very common for organizations and entrepreneurs to donate money to good causes and be very open about this in public. In the Netherlands there are also many philanthropies, however not many people know of their existence. Dutch philanthropies tend to stay out of the spotlight. The news item explained why this is and highlighted the fact that this is slowly changing, what we as the Bernard van Leer Foundation think is very positive.
