Children present their slum redevelopment plans to Bhubaneswar Development Authority

Published September 7, 2016

Covered drains, no prickly shrubs and houses with a separate room for children to sleep in are among the proposals presented to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority by seven of the 59 children who participated in a four-month, child-led planning exercise to redevelop their neighbourhood, Nilamadhavbasti.

With the Foundation’s support, Bhubanewsar is the first Indian city to include children in the planning and monitoring of neighbourhood development – part of its commitment to being a child-friendly city. Read the Orissa Diary report of the meeting, and the English translation (summary) of the children’s proposals.
