Leaders from Latin America: apply for Early Childhood Leadership Programme at Harvard Kennedy School

Leaders from Latin America are invited to apply for the eighth iteration of the Early Childhood Leadership Programme at Harvard Kennedy School. The programme is designed for public policy makers, public managers, representatives of multilateral organisations, researchers and leaders of civil society organisations, social investment companies or other companies.

Selection will be based on potential decision-making power to influence new practices, policies and programmes focused on early childhood. Applicants will need to have a good understanding of English as lectures will be mostly in English, though working groups will be in Portuguese or Spanish. The deadline for applications is 11 April 2019.

The course comprises two face-to-face modules and one distance module. The first will be held at Harvard University in Cambridge, USA, from August 4 to 9, 2019, covering subjects including the science of early childhood development; quality, evaluation and innovation in programmes aimed at child development; models for scaling up; a child development perspective on cities and urbanism; and strategies and skills for public leadership.

Lecturers will include acknowledged specialists in the fields of biological, behavioural, social and human sciences such as Jack P. Shonkoff and Charles Nelson III. Participants will work in small groups to develop and refine projects aimed at promoting child development. This will be followed by distance activities, supervised by a team of facilitators.

The second module will take place over two days in November 2019 at Insper in São Paulo. Participants will present their projects, and strategies for implementation, for group analysis and feedback. This module will also present case studies of Brazilian initiatives and discuss the creation of long-term strategies to build a strong and purposeful agenda for early childhood development in Brazil.
