Mayor of Beyoğlu speaks on successful parenting project
The closing event of the ‘Informed Families, Healthy Generations’ project was widely covered in the Turkish media this week. The Mayor of Beyoğlu Municipality, Ahmet Misbah Demircan – who helped to launch the project in 2016 – spoke about the importance of family and education. Other speakers included project evaluators, parents, trainers and BvLF’s Turkey representative, Yiğit Aksakoglu.
Evaluation shows that the project has been successful in improving various aspects of parenting, such as listening skills, anger management and communication techniques. Parents who participated have improved knowledge on stages of child development, and report feeling less stress and being less likely to discipline children through shouting or physical violence.
The event featured a roundtable on good practices in using data to make smart cities more parent-friendly, hosted by the directors of the municipal departments of social welfare and IT and attended by representatives from other municipalities and NGOs.
