Mayor of São Paulo launches project for safe and playful walking routes

Bruno Covas, the Mayor of São Paulo, last week launched the Territorios Educadores (“educational territory”) project to improve walking routes near educational and cultural early childhood services, making them safer and introducing features that encourage playful interactions between children and their caregivers.

The project is part of the Bernard van Leer Foundation’s Urban95 strategy in São Paulo, which has involved working closely over the last year with other local leaders including Janaína Lima, Pólice Neto, João Octaviano and Cláudio Bernardes, and partners including SECOVI, United Way and ANTP.

Following previous Urban95 work in the neighbourhood of Campo Limpo, the Territorios Educadores project will first work there before being extended to other city regions.
