New campaign encourages Rio de Janiero community to listen to young children

BvLF partner CIESPI has launched a new campaign with partners in Rocinha, a favela neighbourhood of Rio de Janiero. With posters, flyers and a jingle on local community radio, the month-long campaign – called Rocinha: Tune into Children – encourages positive parenting behaviours such as conversing every day even with very young children, and letting children play outside the home in the fresh air.

The campaign is based on CIESPI’s applied research and listening to the voices of the community for two years. Alongside parenting practices, it is also promoting an agenda for change which includes improving the deteriorated and often dangerous condition of creches and preschools in the community and ensuring physical safety of young children on the journey from home to school.
