Last month saw the launch of a new book on parenting in Jordan, supported by the Bernard van Leer Foundation along with The Kyan Project. The book, titled “Parenting – Jordan”, relates stories and advice from 48 parents and parenting experts.
The launch was held at the Children’s Museum in Jordan, and a portion of proceeds from its sale will also go to the Museum.
“We are sharing real life stories of parents in Jordan that will hopefully bring love and inspiration to our readers,” explains Dina Abdul Majeed, Founder of 360Moms, which compiled the book together with the Empowering Through social enterprise arm of consulting firm Seven Circles.
The book draws on support from the public and private sectors, civil society, academia and aid agencies to feature parents from a range of socio-economic backgrounds. Their stories illustrate diverse struggles, and the different parenting talents they bring to bear to solve them.
The book launch was covered in media outlets including The Jordan Times, Nabd and Al Anbat News. It also featured on AmmanTV.
As Andrea Torres, Programme Director at the Bernard van Leer Foundation, said at the launch: “Caregivers are not all the same, and this book shows us the many ways of being a parent… Their stories are unique and powerful but have one major element in common, the love and care for their children.”
Based on the book’s success, it is planned to publish similar books focusing on parents in other countries in the region.
