Read about the Foundation’s work in 2020
Available in a new online format, the Bernard van Leer Foundation’s Annual Report 2020 features stories from our work – including how we adapted to support the needs of infants, toddlers and caregivers during Covid-19 restrictions.
Explore the interactive world map showing the work in our focus countries and learning partnerships in our three investment areas: Urban95, Parents+ and Early Years Thought Leadership. This year’s stories include:
- How insights from behavioural science informed messaging for parents in Côte d’Ivoire;
- The launch of the nationwide Nurturing Neighbourhoods Challenge in India;
- Tackling air pollution in London and caregiver mental health in Lebanon; and
- Rapid research into the impacts of Covid-19 restrictions on families with young children.
In their foreword Nanno Kleiterp – the Chair of the Board of Trustees – and Michael Feigelson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Van Leer Group, reflect on how the challenges of the post-Covid recovery could create an opening for early years advocates.
“It could be an opportunity to bridge divides and to work together across countries, as well as across ideological and political differences. If we want this kind of recovery, we believe the best way to start is to look at challenges in front of us through the eyes of children and families. This kind of perspective can help remind us of what we have in common rather than what divides us, and keep us focused on making practical change for those that need it the most.”
The Annual Report 2020 includes a comprehensive overview of our finances and grantmaking in the last year. It also contains summaries in Arabic, Dutch, French, Hebrew, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.
