Recife’s new legal framework prioritises early childhood
The city of Recife has passed a new legal framework that establishes early childhood as a cross-sectoral priority, coordinating data on young children and requiring that their perspective be considered in all public investment. Mayor Geraldo Julio and other city leaders recently participated in the executive course in early childhood leadership at Harvard.
The new framework was drafted during a workshop at which the Bernard van Leer Foundation provided funding and technical support, and our local partners helped to secure cross-party backing for it. We now hope to use the framework as a platform to scale our Urban95 and Parents+ work in the city.
