The Graduate Center of the City University New York (CUNY) has established the Selim Iltus Memorial Fund for Doctoral Research to continue work begun by our colleague Selim Iltus, who passed away last summer. Selim was the driving force behind our early work on living conditions and young children’s health and well-being. He was delighted to see this expand to become Urban95, our strategy to support the planning and management of vibrant, healthy cities that meet the needs of young children and their families.

A team from the Children’s Environments Research Group (CERG), including Roger Hart, Brett Stoudt, Sheridan Bartlett, Naomi Podber, Brian Johnston, and Bijan Kimiagar, is carrying on Selim’s work of analysing quantitative data collected in seven countries related to projects supported by BvLF. The research is expected to address gaps in empirical knowledge on the relationship between children’s well-being and the physical and social environments of their homes, schools, and communities.
