Last week we hosted a virtual book launch for Urban Playground: How child-friendly planning and design can save cities. The author, Tim Gill, is an independent scholar and advocate on early childhood who has worked extensively with the Bernard van Leer Foundation’s Urban95 programme.

The launch featured a talk by Tim along with contributions from city officials Anuela Ristani in Tirana, Bosmat Sfadia-Wolf in Tel Aviv and Tullio Ponzi in Recife. Watch the recording here:

Urban Playground explains what child-friendly urban planning is and why it matters. Bringing in examples from cities including Rotterdam, Tirana, Antwerp, Recife, Oslo, Ghent, Vancouver and London, the book sets out key principles and tools for implementation.

“Gill’s book is brimming with examples of how we might plan a healthier post-Covid world”, writes Oliver Wainwright in a recent review in The Guardian.
