Urban95 pocket park inaugurated in Recife
The city of Recife inaugurated the Arari Ferreira pocket park on October 12 – National Children’s Day in Brazil. As shown in the photographs, the revamped square offers families with young children new opportunities for leisure and play.
The pocket park, in Iputinga neighbourhood, is part of a wider Urban95 project that includes transforming another square and the principal routes taken by local residents to get to those squares. Three years in the making, the project reflects participatory research with children and caregivers in the community and feedback from temporary interventions.
Improvements in the routes to the park – including tree planting, better lighting, speed signs for vehicle users and pedestrian crosswalks – are planned to be complete next month.
