Workshop launches Urban95 in Pune
Urban95 has a new partner city: Pune, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The new partnership between Pune Municipal Corporation and BvLF was launched at a workshop at the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA) on May 28, attended by over 120 participants.
Mrs Sandhya Ghagre, Deputy Municipal Commissioner in the Social Development Department, said: “A key part of our work in the social development sector is to meet the needs of families and parents of young children through self-help group forums in low-income and disadvantaged communities.
“Through such sensitisation of Samuha Sanghatikas [group organisers] and social development officers, we can empower them to discuss the importance of parenting and early childhood within their self-help groups and also reach out to a large number of parents and children within their communities.”
The workshop featured sessions on how the first five years lay the foundation for health, behaviour and learning throughout life, the role of parents as brain builders, and collecting household-level data on early childhood development. Pune is our second Urban95 partner city in India, after Bhubaneshwar.
