Insights Report: Supporting Cycling Uptake for Care Journeys
This report has been produced as part of the project ‘Increasing Access to Cycling Mobilities of Care’, in partnership with BYCS, Chain Breaking Women, Purpose (Bengaluru Moving), and Bicitekas.
Although care journeys account for up to 30% of trips taken by adults, they are often not well considered in transport literature and policy agendas. Cycling could be an empowering tool for such trips, with various individual, social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Supported by the foundation, BYCS have been leading a global initiative that included an exploratory caregiver survey, the coordination of pilot implementations in Mexico with Bicitekas, Turkey with Chain Breaking Women (Zincir Kıran Kadınlar Derneği), and India with Bengaluru Moving / Purpose, as well as a new desk-based research on cycling & mobility care. It all comes together in this document, explaining why and how policymakers and practitioners can support uptake for these journeys.
