This toolkit offers various tools that can be used to gather data on young children and caregivers in cities, including a people moving count, stationary activity mapping, intercept surveys and sensory mapping. They are explained in practical detail in this publication, produced as part of our collaboration with Gehl. The tools are adapted from Gehl’s Public Space Public Life survey for the Foundation’s Urban95 programme.
These surveys provide insight into public life by helping us understand the life of a place and what physical changes to the environment will create a more sustainable and liveable city for all.
