Josien SchrijnemakersProgramme Coordinator the Netherlands
Josien joined the Bernard van Leer Foundation in November 2021 as Programme Coordinator for the Netherlands. Josien holds a MA in International Relations from the University of Amsterdam and a BA in Interdisciplinary Social Science from Utrecht University. She is the proud mom of two young children and lives in Amsterdam. Josien is an experienced project manager with a passion for human rights, an interest in culture and politics and a drive to contribute to a better world.
Previously, Josien worked and interned at several NGOs and the United Nations. She comes to us from Human Rights Watch, where she worked as Senior Coordinator with a focus on fundraising and outreach. She also was the project lead for the Human Rights Weekend, Human Rights Watch’s annual film festival in the Netherlands. Before that, Josien worked as Programme Assistant at the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism – The Hague and successfully completed an internship at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York. In the past, she also volunteered for VluchtelingenWerk Nederland, Amnesty International and Child in Need Institute Holland.
