Shipra SharmaProgramme Coordinator India
Shipra joined the Bernard van Leer Foundation in December 2021 as Programme Coordinator for India. With a master’s degree in Human Development and Childhood Studies from Lady Irwin College, Delhi University, Shipra is an early childhood development professional with over 10 years’ experience of working in multilateral development organizations in India. Before joining the Foundation, she worked as a Programme Officer for AKF India, responsible for implementing their early childhood development strategy in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.
Prior to joining AKF India, she worked for seven years as a Senior Project Associate with the Centre for Early Childhood Education and Development, Ambedkar University, Delhi, where she led a technical assistance unit on early childhood education. She has broad experience in leading research projects and providing technical assistance to national and state governments in India. She has supported UNICEF state offices and the Women & Child Development Department in the states of West Bengal, Rajasthan and Maharashtra by developing evidence-based strategies for capacity building of ICDS functionaries to bridge the gap between research and practice.
She firmly believes that learning happens when people and peers are provided with a secure and non-threatening environment and that is what she strives to achieve in her interactions with the peers, stakeholders and communities she works with. She is an avid reader and passionate about making healthy choices in life by being regular with her yoga practice. She is also an amateur runner and wishes soon to run a full marathon!
