Zümrütevler Square Interim Implementation
Available in English and Turkish, this short book looks at how a busy intersection in Istanbul – Zümrütevler Square – was transformed in 2019 to create a space for families to meet, with sitting areas and low-cost play furniture. Crossed by many children on their walk to school, the intersection commonly saw dangerous driving and illegal parking. The intervention was implemented by architects Superpool, with support from Maltepe Municipality, the Bernard van Leer Foundation and NACTO’s Global Designing Cities Initiative.
